Hearing the world around you is just as important as seeing it. Our hearing is an essential part of our daily lives. When we have the full hearing capacity, it gives us an opportunity to express ourselves and easily understand others. We have an opportunity to get the most out of life when we can hear what’s going on around us. In fact, our hearing can have a profound impact on our lives and loved ones. Many of us find joy in hearing our names being called, hearing the sounds of nature, and knowing the sounds of familiar and comforting places.
Life is made up of sound. But, a small population of the world is hearing impaired or totally deaf. This shouldn’t mean they can’t live life to the fullest. No one should feel isolated because of hearing impairment. Are you or a loved one hearing impaired? There are resources available that can aid the hearing impaired in living a life of normalcy. For some, these resources aren’t feasible because of the cost.
Oftentimes, the hearing impaired need special training or equipment to get the most out of life. Learning sign language is one of the basic fundamental new skills to help the hearing impaired, but not everyone has access to this option because of limited resources including financial restrictions and limited access to education. In this instance, the deaf are left without the tools they need to successfully navigate their lives. The Boanerges Deaf Initiative (BDI) has formed a resource organization for the hearing impaired.
